The Dwight Veterinary Clinic opened its doors in June of 1951 under the ownership and direction of Dr. Robert K. Gay, who graduated from Ontario Veterinary College in 1950. At that time the practice was predominately food animal related. In the late 1950’s with the change in agriculture practice, Dr. Gay's veterinary practice gradually changed to treating more companion animals.
By 1975, Dr. Gay had expanded his practice to 6 veterinarians and opened the Pine Bluff Animal Hospital. At this time the practice was 60% small animal and 40% large animal.
In 1999, an LLC was formed with Dr. Robert K. Gay, Dr Louis Cronin (Kansas State 1975), Dr Larry Johnson (Missouri, 1976), Dr Brian Schmidt (Illinois 1982), and Dr. R. Todd Gay (Illinois 1983). At that time we changed our focus to become an entirely small animal patients.
In 2002, we opened the Lakewood Animal Hospital to better accommodate our Morris area clients. In 2011, we added a fourth clinic to our group, Skinner Animal Clinic which serves the Wilmington area.
All four locations are full service hospitals including general medicine, surgery, dentistry, nutritional and behavior counseling, emergency service, boarding and grooming. Our Pine Bluff Animal
Hospital is also our referral center where Dr. Schmidt performs complex orthopedic and soft tissue surgery not only for our patients but also for other clinics in the area.
